Lunar Mansion Report, September 15, 2025 to September 21, 2025

This is an entry in a continuing series of posts looking at the Moon's position and condition in the week ahead with an eye to the Mansions of the Moon. This is an exercise to help me track the speed of the Moon, organize my thoughts on the Mansions, and think about the practical applications.

All times are for me locally, United States Pacific Time. I will be making note of the Moon's phase, speed, and Mansion position in my assessment. Currently, I'm not considering aspects with other planets.

Lunar Mansion Report, September 15, 2025 to September 21, 2025.
Monday, September 15th, 2025. The Moon is in Annathra, the Gap, when September 15th begins. At 3:52pm the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Atarfa, the Glance of the Lion. The phased is Waning Crescent which is wrathful and best for works of abrupt endings and cutting off.

It will take the Moon 22 hours and 22 minutes to get through Annathra. This is fast but it is 20 m minutes longer than the last Mansion so the Moon is slowing down. A fast Moon can make magic happen more quickly but may also make it dissipate more quickly.

The wrathful powers of Annathra include lengthening the imprisionment of captives and prisoners, the deterioration of kingdoms, to repel mice and bedbugs (Ghayat al Hakim), the destruction and affliction of captives (Latin Picatrix), war-magic, drive away infestations, and powerfully restrain negative forces (Celestial Magic).

The image for Annathra in the Latin Picatrix is an eagle with a man's face. The eagle is a frequent military image signifying fierceness, speed, and power. Annathra’s title, The Gap, was imagined to be the gap between the lion constellation’s jaws, or maybe under his chin. The essence of Annathra’s power to grant victory in battle is in being able to escape danger.

The wrathful powers of Atarfa are to destroy crops, to make unfortunate those who travel, to do evil to all men,  to cause division and hatred between allies, to cause infirmity (Latin Picatrix), and to inflict failure and weakness (Celestial Magic).

The image in the Latin Picatrix for Atarfa is a eunuch covering his eyes with his hands. The wrathful Atarfa promotes jealousy and works similar to the Evil Eye.

The Moon will travel through Atarfa for 22 hours and 45 minutes. This is fast but it is 23 minutes longer than the previous Mansion so the Moon is slowing down. A fast Moon can make magic happen quickly but may also make it pass quickly.

The traditional indicator star for this Mansion is Regulus, Cor Leonis, the Heart of the Lion, also called the King Star. Regulus is one of the 15 Behenian Stars. Agrippa writes, "Under Cor Leonis they made an image of a lion, cat, or the figure of a respected man sitting in a chair: these make a man temperate, keep anger away, and give grace."

The Moon is in Algebha at the end of September 16th.

Wednesday, September 17th, 2025. The Moon is in Algebha, the Brow of the Lion, when September 17th begins. The Moon moves into the next Mansion, Azobra, the Mane of the Lion, at 1:49pm. The phase is Waning Crescent and so good for works of obstruction and obfuscation.

The wrathful powers of Azobra are to besiege cities, to be feared (Latin Picatrix), loss, destruction, binding, fornication, and separation (Liber Lunae).

The image for this Mansion in the Latin Picatrix is a man riding the back of a lion holding its ear in his hand. In its most beneficial aspect the lion is fully controlled by the figure on its back and adds its ferocity and strength to the figure’s bearing (despite the figure’s somewhat precarious position). This concept of being next to danger but safe from it is a big theme of Azobra.

The Moon is in Azobra a the end of September 17th.

Thursday, September 18th, 2025. The Moon is in Azobra, the Mane of the Lion, at the beginning of September 18th. At 1:24pm the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Azarfa, the Tail of the Lion. The phase is Waning Crescent which supports works of withering and ruination.

The Moon will travel across Azobra for 23 hours and 35 minutes. This is on the edge of the average speed and, since the Moon has been slowing down we are going to consider the as slow. Additionally, this is 13 minutes longer than the previous Mansion so she is slowing down. A slow Moon may make magic last longer but may also make magical effects delayed in their manifestation.

The beneficial powers of Asarfa are increasing farms and newly planted trees, promoting the welfare of partners as well as for reconciling differences between them for improved work conditions and product, improving conditions for successful hunting (Gayat al Hakim), increase harvests, the improvement of allies, officials, captives, and servants that they will be steadfast and honest (Latin Picatrix), and brings help and benevolence (Celestial Magic).

In the Latin Picatrix the image for this Mansion is a dragon fighting a man made in black lead. It is described as an image of breaking and separating. In its beneficial form this image could be used to break from addiction or unhealthy situations or relationships.

A wrathful Alawway can be called upon to bind nobles (Latin Picatrix), destroy ligature spells, and to dissolve charmed against copulation (Celestial Magic).

The image in the Latin Picatrix for Alawway is a red man embracing a white woman. This is an image of oppisites joining into a harmonious whole. The sexual overtones of this image suggest that each of the opposites desires unity with the other and the power dynamic is more or less equitable.

Saturday, September 20th, 2025. The Moon is in Alawway, the Barker, when September 20th begins. At 1:50pm the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Azimech, the Spike. The phase is Waning Crescent which is best for works of severance and abandonment. At 8:06pm the Moon moves to within 8˚ of the Sun and is considered combust which increases the power of the Moon's wrathful powers.

The Moon will take 24 hours and 25 minutes to get through Alawway. This is slow and it is 24 minutes longer than the previous Mansion so the Moon is slowing down. A slow Moon may make magic take longer to materialize but may also prolong the effects of magic.

The image of Azimech in the Latin Picatrix is a dog biting its own tail. This may be a symbol of futility but it may also be some kind of ouroboros. Nigel Jackson's Celestial Magic includes an ear of wheat in the image of this Mansion. Its connotations of fertility, growth, and bounty cannot be overstated. The dog turns in its cycle, ever striving to its goal.

The Moon is in Azimech at the end of September 20th.

Sunday, September 21, 2025. The Moon is in Azimech, the Spike, at the beginning of September 21st. At 2:40pm the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Algafra, the Covering. The phase at the beginning of the day is Waning Crescent and combust. This is best for very wrathful works of destruction and suffering. At 12:53pm the Moon makes an exact conjunction with the Sun and for about a minute and a half is Cazimi and extremely beneficial. When this beneficial moment passes the Moon is still combust and so wrathful again. The Moon is combust for the remainder of September 21st.

The Moon will move through Azimech for 24 hours and 50 minutes. This is slow and it is 25 minutes longer than the previous Mansion so she is slowing down. A slow Moon can delay the effects of magic but may also make those effects longer lasting.

Lunar Mansion Report, September 8, 2025 to September 14, 2025

This is an entry in a continuing series of posts looking at the Moon's position and condition in the week ahead with an eye to the Mansions of the Moon. This is an exercise to help me track the speed of the Moon, organize my thoughts on the Mansions, and think about the practical applications.

All times are for me locally, United States Pacific Time. I will be making note of the Moon's phase, speed, and Mansion position in my assessment. Currently, I'm not considering aspects with other planets.

Lunar Mansion Report, September 8, 2025 to September 14, 2025.
Monday, September 8th, 2025. The Moon is in Arrexhe, the Belly of the Fish, when September 8th begins. At 11:37am the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Alnath, the Butting One. The phase is Waning Gibbous which is wrathful and best for works of erosion and loss.

The Moon will travel through Arrexhe for 21 hours and 31 minutes. This is fast and it is 29 minutes faster than the previous Mansions so the Moon is speeding up. A fast Moon may make magic happen more quickly but may also make it pass more quickly.

The wrathful powers of Arrexhe are destroying trusts, restraining and harming prisoners, hurting someone riding on a ship (Gayat al Hakim), besiege cities, get rid of things, destroy an area, make treasures be lost, to make the incarceration of captives firm, and inflict evil on sailors at sea (Latin Picatrix)

The image in the Latin Picatrix for Arrexhe is a fish with a colored spine, a bit of sympathetic magic for attracting more fish to a particular spot. In my own mind there is a connection to the stories of a person being eaten by a fish or a whale and later being expelled.

The wrathful powers of Alnath include to kill enemies, guards for demolition and crushing (Ibn Hatim), create discord and enmity between spouses or friends, to sabotage a partnership with fiery evil (Ghayat al Hakim), for destruction and depopulation, and to kill (Latin Picatrix).

The image in the Latin Picatrix for Alnath is a a black man with his hair wrapped and encircled, standing on his feet, having a spear in his right hand in the manner of a warrior. Alnath is a rather grim Mansion in which works of destruction are empowered.

The Moon is in Alnath at the end of September 8th.

Tuesday, September 9th, 2025. The Moon is in Alnath, the Butting One, at the opening of September 9th, and moves into the next Mansion, Albotayn, the Little Belly, at 8:52am. The phase is Waning Gibbous, which supports works of diminishment and decay.

The Moon will move through Alnath for 21 hours and 15 minutes. This is fast and it is 16 minutes faster than the previous Mansion so she is speeding up. A fast Moon may make magical effects happen quickly but may also make those effects pass more quickly.

The wrathful powers of Albotayn include to sabotage a marriage before it can be consummated, to worsen the conditions of a captive to harm them (Ghayat al Hakim), destruction of buildings before they can be completed, and to enrage one man against another (Latin Picatrix).

The image in the Latin Picatrix for Albotayn is a king on a throne. The approximate Chinese Seiu that corresponds to Albotayn is The Storeroom. Combined with the talismanic purposes of digging wells and finding hidden treasure, in my mind, the king is an underworld figure, a king in his sepulcher, surrounded by his riches.

The Moon is in Albotayn at the end of September 9th.

Wednesday, September 10th, 2025. The Moon is in Albotayn, the Little Belly, at the beginning of September 10th. At 5:58am the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Azoraye, the Many Little Ones. The phase is Waning Gibbous which is best for works of subtraction and division.

It will take the Moon 21 hours and 6 minutes to get through Albotayn. This is very fast and marks the fastest passage through a Mansion during this cycle. A fast Moon can make magic come about quickly but may also may also make magic dissipate quickly.

The wrathful powers of Albotayn include to sabotage a marriage before it can be consummated, to worsen the conditions of a captive to harm them (Ghayat al Hakim), destruction of buildings before they can be completed, and to enrage one man against another (Latin Picatrix).

Combined with the talismanic purposes of digging wells and finding hidden treasure, in my mind, the king is an underworld figure, a king in his sepulcher, surrounded by his riches.

The wrathful powers of Azoraye include sabotaging a partnership, torturing a prisoner, destroying sheep, goats, and cows (Ghayat al Hakim), to firmly incarcerate captives (Latin Picatrix). Overall, Azoraye is considered very beneficial so wrathful qualities are very few. One could use the wrathful time to interrupt or take away the good things and luck that this Mansion usually represents.

The image in the Latin Picatrix for Azoraye is a seated woman with her right hand above her head. Given the overwhelming positivity associated with this Mansion this is most likely a gesture of blessing. The traditional indicator stars for this Mansion are the Pleiades, the Seven Sisters, a grouping of stars with a long and legendary past. The Pleiades are one of the 15 Behenian stars whose powers include, according to Agrippa, "brings an increase to light of the eyes, collects daemons, promotes winds, and reveals secrets and hidden things." And the image is "a virgin girl or the figure of a torch".

The Moon ends September 10th in Azoraye.

Thursday, September 11th, 2025. The Moon is in Azoraye, the Many Little Ones, at the beginning of September 11th. At 3:08am the Moon makes ingress into the next Mansion, Aldebaran, the Bull's Eye. The phase is Waning Gibbous which strengthens works of damage and obstruction.

The Moon will travel through Azoraye for 21 hours and 10 minutes. This is quite fast but it is 4 minutes longer than the previous Mansion, so the Moon is slowing down. A fast Moon may make magic happen quickly but it may also make magic pass quickly.

The wrathful powers of Aldebaran include to corrupt a city, to build a building not expected to last or stay in good condition, destroying crops, ruining a relationship between spouses, to bring bad luck to one digging buried goods, attract scorpions and snakes (Ghayat al Hakim), for enmity and hatred (Ibn Hatim), to make a lord despise his servant, destroy fountains and streams (Latin Picatrix), and to cause fear, submission, and uncertainty (Celestial Magic).

The image of Aldebaran in the Latin Picatrix is a knight on horseback holding a viper in his hand. This image is very similar to more than a few goetic spirits from the Lemegeton. A wrathful Aldebaran is the king killer.

The Moon is in Aldebaran at the end of September 11th.

Friday, September 12th, 2025. The Moon is in Aldebaran, the Bull's Eye, when September 12th begins, but only briefly, as she steps into the next Mansion, Almices, the Brilliant One, at 12:21am. The Moon continues through Almices until 9:48pm and then enters the third Mansion of the day, Alhana, the Mark. The phase is Waning Gibbous, which supports works of confusion and deception.

The Moon will be in Aldebaran for 21 hours and 13 minutes which is fast but 3 minutes longer than the previous Mansion. It will then take the Moon 21 hours and 27 minutes to travel through Almices. This is still fast and a further slowing by another 14 minutes. A fast Moon can make magic happen quickly but may also make magic dissipate quickly.

Almices is such a favorable Mansion that the only wrathful power listed in the Ghayat al Hakim, the Latin Picatrix, Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy, and Nigel Jackson's Celestial Magic is the sabotage and ruining of partnerships or relationships. Alternately, the beneficial powers of increased intellect and favor can be turned on their heads.

The image in the Latin Picatrix for this Mansion is a disembodied head, the seat of sight, hearing, and understanding.

The wrathful powers of Alhana include corrupting cities and confining them, retaliating from kings, inflicting harm and damage on enemies, ruining crops and trusts, causing adverse effects of medication (Ghayat al Hakim), to break resistance (Celestial Magic), and to impede the work of physicians (Agrippa).

The image for Alhana in the Latin Picatrix is a white man embracing a white woman. The title The Mark refers to a mark signifying ownership, like a brand on livestock. This is a Mansion of declaring commitments. Another symbol for it might be a wedding ring. The white man and the white woman are twin halves of a whole and Alhana weds them together.

The Moon is in Alhana at the end of September 12th.

Saturday, September 13th, 2025. The Moon is in Alhana, the Mark, when September 13th begins. At 7:28pm the Moon moves into the next Mansion, Aldira, the Forearm. The phase is Waning Gibbous which is best for works of breaking and vulnerability.

The Moon will travel through Alhana for 21 hours and 39 minutes. This is fast but it is 12 minutes longer than the previous Mansion, so she is slowing down. A fast Moon may make magic manifest quickly but may also make those effects to pass quickly.

The wrathful powers of Alhana include corrupting cities and confining them, retaliating from kings, inflicting harm and damage on enemies, ruining crops and trusts causing adverse effects of medication (Ghayat al Hakim), to break resistance (Celestial Magic), and to impede the work of physicians (Agrippa).

The wrathful powers of Aldira include disposing of property, a house or money or similar assets from a person (Ghayat al Hakim), to expel flies so that they will not enter where you wish, to destroy officials (Latin Picatrix), to rid oneself of annoying or distracting influences and destroy tyrannous power structures (Celestial Magic).

The image for this Mansion is a man raising his arms as if supplicating to heaven. The traditional indicator stars for this Mansion are Castor and Pollox, the twins from Greek myth. These stars have been equated with twins for a long, long time. One was a celestial twin the other was an underworld twin. The man with his hands raised is one twin calling to the other in the other world. This is a Mansion suited to creating spiritual alliances.

The Moon is in Aldira at the end of September 13th.

Sunday, September 14th, 2025. The Moon is in Aldira, the Forearm, when September 14th begins. The Moon makes ingress into the next Mansion, Annathra, the Gap, at 5:30pm. The phase at the beginning of the day is Waning Gibbous, which supports works of delay and misfortune. At 3:32am the Moon makes a square aspect with the Sun and the phase switches to Waning Crescent, which supports works of abrupt endings and death.

The Moon will travel through Aldira for 22 hours and 2 minutes. This is fast but it is 23 minutes longer than the previous Mansion so the Moon is slowing down. A fast Moon can make magic happen quickly but can also make it pass quickly.
